The Fantasy Baseball Thread
Didn't answer my other topic so I don't know whether to use the betting system. I lost all elagues and finished no better than fourth in any which was my worst year yet. I did better than anybody the final 2-3 months, but it wasn't enough when coming back from 34 behind. I finished 2 and 1/.2 behind the third palce guy which was a guy who said I had "a snowball's chance in hell" of reaching him and on the final day I still had a chance to catch him. He's one of those people who talks big and then gets lucky he didn't look horrible out of it.

2008 Playoffs
All four series are now 2-0, with the red sox, rays, dodgers, and phillies all within a game of moving on to the next round. As far as who I "want" to win, I think I want the Rays and Dodgers to be in the world series and the Rays to win it all. I am not against any team in the playoffs other than the Red Sox though. And a tad against the White Sox I suppose. J.D. Drew, the player I always have said is a great power-hitter, won tonight's game with a homerun off of the star Angels clsoer. Aaron always made fun of Drew, but I knew he could hit it as far as any player.

2008 Playoffs
The 2008 playoofs have the following matchups: 1. Dodgers vs. Cubs 2. Brewers vs. Phillies 3. Red Sox vs. Angels 4. White Sox vs. Rays In day 1, the Dodgers, Phillies, and Red Sox all won. I would put some of this (and football matchups) up for betting if I knew Aaron would bet. At the moment only I make bets with the system and I do not want to simply pad my points total with nobody else trying for points. I predict the cubs, phillies, angels, and rays will win these series. I then predict Cubs vs. Angels in the World Series, with the Cubs winning it all. I am not confident on it though. And there are many good stories which could unfold. I wouldn't mind seeing Mannyd estroy his old team to win it all. I wouldn't mind seeing the Rays come from nowhere last year to win it this year. Same with Brewers. I also would not mind an all Chicago World Series. The only teams I really have no reason to want in the world series are the Phillies and Angels, but I chose the Angels anyway because they do have some good pitching, the best closer, some speed at the top, good defense, and Teixeira.

White Sox Make Playoffs
The Chicago White Sox used a homerun by Jim Thome to win 1-0 and head to the playoffs, while the Twins are headed home.

Mets Crumble Again
The New York Mets fell apart to end a "sure thing" season without a playoff berth. Second straight year that the Florida Marlins dealt the blow to them on the final day of the season. The main reason I was wanting the Mets not to make it was because I wanted the significance of Billy Wagner to be magnified because 1. he is udnerappreciated and 2. losing him ruined one of my fantasy teams.

I found out that although I am still 16 points out after Santana's masterpiece, I technically could still win if my final 4 starts are all perfect games. lol Even then I would ened help. But anywya that would lower my whip from 1.31 to 1.28.

Tour Of Champions
This wasn't so great because it was only 1 hour, had some singing taking up part of the hour, and didn't show all of the gymnasts performing. Shayla was interviewed, but it did not show her performing.

Wow, this topic is sure active. My ninth straight post now. In one of my leagues one team is in first place and then two teams are half a point behind him. It's a daily league too so if they are smart they should be making some mvoes the final weekend.

Tour Of Champions
One of their stops will be shown this Friday evening on tv. Channel and dates may vary though, but check your tv listings to be sure whether or not it's on there. Here it is on Friday night on a channel with call letters of WPXX. Kind of strange since usually it's on NBC or ESPN.

Yankees Eliminated
Just to clarify, actually they aren't officially eliminated. I noticed now they are 6 and 1/2 out with 7 left so they are all but eliminated anyway though. Teams that still have chances, but no guarantees: CHISOX TWINS PHILLIES METS BREWERS MARLINS DODGERS DIAMONDBACKS ASTROS CARDINALS YANKEES

Yankees Eliminated
Finally a year where the Yankees don't make the playoffs. Too abd the red sox have to make it. lol The Rays claimed their berth now and I am hoping they win the division. So within a couple days "most likely" there will be very few teams who don't know if they will make the playoffs. I am kind of hoping the mets complete their second straight meltdown, but it would take the brewers suddenly getting hot or the mets will make it.

My teams arw a joke now. In one league I once thought I had a chance in i am nearly 40 points out now. haha. In the main one I was trying in I am about 25 or so out. I would have to have pretty much EVERY start be good the rest of the way AND my offense explode AND the top guy get caught in some categories. It HAS to start soon as there are barely any days left. lol I haven't picked up a win in about two weeks.

What a disappointing way to end the season. I am about 20 k's behind 1 guy, 39 behind another, 6 wins behind gaining 5 wins points, close to gaining in e.r.a. and whip. But yet I am FORCED to use only 10 starts this week. Two clsoers and 10 starts when I really badly need to use around 15 and then more than 15 next week to have much chance at gaining in k's and wins. But the only available two start guys are moehler, sommanmistine or whatever his anme is, and guys owned by less than 10%. I will just have to hope that my 4 starts against washington and other against oakland will help me gain in wins, e.r.a., and whip this week and then next week I would have to hope I could somehow gain TONS of k's or I have no chance. What's also sad is I AM NOW THE SAME AMOUNT BEHIND in another league which I had no chance in! So that shows how bad I am doing in this one too. I am now 20 back in both of them. I still ahve a mathematical chance in this one, but what a way to lose.... normally I go out fighting with lots of starts and it's disappointing to have my hands tied this time and have to watch my team lsoe ground because I can't get any good two start guys so I can/'t even go out with a bang. If I use 16-18 starts next week it still won't likely be enough to help even if they all toss shutouts.

Zambrano Tosses No-Hitter
Carlos Zambrano pitched a complete game no-hitter in a neutral stadium to make up a game rained out by Hurricane Ike. He issues one walk and hit one batter while facing one mroe than the minimum and striking out 10. Milwaukee's stadium has eben asking for a no-no lately. Sabthia almost pitched one (I believe that was at home, can't remember) and them Chris Young almost pitched one at Milwaukee last week.

I can't decide what to do. I have 4 different picthers who will face Washington next week. santana, peavy, young, and pedro. But only one of those is a 2 start starter. I can't decide whether I should waive brian wilson and chris young for 2 more 2 start starters or not. Young has been good, but lost both times. SD cant get run support for Peavy or Young either one. CBS wn't even allow waiving peavy or santana so I can't waive those either. I can waive alckey, but he MAY get two starts. So I am unsure whether to drop lackey or not. If I were to waive lackey and wilson and young and bench peavy I could use 15 starts. I am 5 or 6 wins behind some guys so even though washington may be easy wins, I may be froced to not use those easy wins and use 2 start guys instead. edit: now cbs also lists lackey as two starts. I see two teams I am chasing in pitching categories are using 10+ starters and the others are using 7 or less. With my current players I could use up to 13 and out of those 3 would be against washington, 1 against oakland, and 1 against texas. So I most likely would have good luck in wins the coming week. However since I also need a lot of k's and a miracle to gain in whip I really am considering using up to 15 starts. I most likely will use 12 starts and 2 closers and then nextw eek see what I ened to do. The only 2 start guys left who may be worth something are the atlanta and cleveland rookies. But maybe I should stick with these 1 start guys against Washington and then nextw eek use more of the 2 start guys and waive lackey etc etc. edit again: I now found out Marquis will be a two start pitcher against Houston and St. Louis even though cbs shows him as pitching today when really zambrano is. To use him I would have to waive either brian wilson or use him instead of volstad. Should I waive Volstad since he faces houston and philadelphia AND he is coming off a leg injury? AND is on the bad marlins? Maybe I should pick up marquis for him.

Hopeless. Carmona again getting clobbered and Santana is winning, but a horrible whip for him too. Nothing goes right so I will just have to do what I said and use no-names. But what's disappointing is that CBS is so confused on who is starting when that I won't even be able to properly select two start starters. Also I guess I will drop votto and lowell and keep mora and longoria. Dunno.

CBS is HORRIBLE every year at keeping up to date news at the end of baseball seasons. They say "Pedro to start Saturday" THEN THEY STILL LIST HIM as starting twice next week! They also kept listing other starters as starting early nextw eek who aren't. And they said Verlander starts Sunday, yet they still have him slated to start Wednesday next week! And by the way my great luck continues. This week I had TWO starters not picth a single game. I used Lackey and Guthrie who were CLAIMED to have three starts between them. They ended up ahving zero. To top that off ONCE AGAIN Peavy lost. I so will nevere draft him or trade for him again unless he switches to a new team that can score runs for him. I am running out of time, fifteen points back, and not many options. And it is much worse when I don't know who will start twice next week. Six rainouts Friday makes it even MORE unclear on rotations.

Mora is back and I picked him up. Having hitters on the bench is the LAST thing to do this time of year. So out of Mora, Lowell, Longoria, and Votto I have to waive 2. Which two would you waive. I'm sure you will agree it is very close to a tossup. Votto is no l,longer hot, but he is at home at that good park next week. Longoria will be back, but with a weak wrist. Mora is back, but with a weak hamstring (but had a deep rbi double last night), and Lowell is in a good lineup of a team trying to make the playoffs. I already have Teixeira in at utility. If I could waive him I would maybe even waive him at some point since the angels will rest him probably. CBS really needs to make vlad undroppable too as it gets close to the final week! At this point I think I am 15 and 1/2 points out. I am still barely ahead in saves and then several wins from several points there. I really can't gain in whip unless I use a ton of starters and get lucky becuase a few good starts is not enough to affect whip this late in the season. A lot of starts would make it more likely to get k's and wins also. Sucks that the HOU games are postponed becuase I need those valverde saves to be sure I can be ok without many closers. I don't see how I will win, but it still is not impossible. My offense will gain about half the points I need if it keeps hitting how it is and othwer teams do bad. So that leaves 8-10 pitching points I need to find a way to gain.

When it rains, it pours. Lackey won't pitch this week. When I desperately need k's and wins. I may have to use the no-names like I said because clinching teams are going to not be using their starters much. This shows how bad cbs' and your strategies both are to not draft pitching in the beginning. Votto k'd every time at-bat today. I may waive him now and use Longoria in his place. edit: the guy in first place is already bragging that his team is betetr than mine and that I only "had a 2 month storm" while the "other 6 did it all year long". Funny considering there are not 6 people ahead of me, there are 4 ahead of me (and two by only 1-3 points). His team is ugly. And today it hit under .150 with no homers, no wins, no saves, a 6.50 e.r.a., a 1.50+ whip, etc. Nice timing for him to brag about his team. Now I want to win even more badly. Valverde notched another save so I am actually further ahead than at the beginning of the week despite only using 2 closers to his 4. I've got to try something drastic here to try to beat him. edit again: After he posted that comment claiming my team sucked yet again... I then got 2 manny homers and 2 kelly johnson homers and I gained in avearge to almst catch him there. As I look, I am only 2 wins behind gaining 4 points and like 20 k's from gaining 3 there. Hard to figure out how to get the wins and k's I need though.

Daily Discussion
Pujols could get the triple crown if he ahdn't been out for 3 weeks due to injury. He's something like 8 homers and 27 rbis back which very well could have been achieved in 3 pujols weeks (along with these fnal 3 weeks also).
