2008 MLB Player Awards
Cliff Lee was named the AL's Cy Young Award winner on Thursday after receiving 24 of the 28 first-place votes. Lee was second on the other four ballots and finished with 132 points. Roy Halladay received the remaining first-place votes and finished second, though three writers foolishly left him off their ballots. He had 71 points. Francisco Rodriguez finished third with 32 points, and Daisuke Matsuzaka came in fourth with 10 points. There was an argument for Halladay over Lee as the AL's best pitcher, but one would have had to weigh his significantly more difficult schedule in order to make it. In this case, there was nothing wrong with the obvious choice.

I am not the biggest fan of Swisher but they didnt give away much and swisher gives them an option for 1st of the OF. So if they dont sign texiera, swisher plays first. I totally agree about Marte. What the hell was that about? A 34 yr old avg middle reliever gets 12 mil? Ridiculous.

CBSSports.com's Scott Miller believes the Padres will soon ask Jake Peavy to waive his no-trade clause to complete a deal to Atlanta. Miller thinks the deal involves Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez, either Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes and one more pitcher, possibly Blaine Boyer or prospect Jeff Locke. Source: Rotoworld If Peavy dosent land in NY, I think I will become a Royals fan

Evan Longoria was the unanimous American League selection of the 28 voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, for the 27 homers and 85 RBIs that followed his delayed addition to the Rays' lineup on April 12. Longoria, also the only player named on all 28 ballots, and White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez, who drew 18 second-place votes and 59 total points, reigned over a deep influx of first-year players.

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Nationals have picked up Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham from the Marlins for Emilio Bonifacio and a package of minor leaguers. Two of the minor leaguers are right-hander P.J. Dean and infielder Jake Smolinski. Unless there's someone much better going to Florida that we don't know about yet, this could be a huge steal for the Nationals. We wouldn't trade either Olsen or Willingham for that trio, much less both. If the Marlins like Bonifacio that much, it could mean that Dan Uggla is on the way out. The Nats could pencil in Willingham at first base and then move him to the outfield if Nick Johnson is healthy. Source: Rotoworld

Ok Ladies and Germs its that time of year. The World Series has ended, awards are about to be given out and players are filing for free agency. Its Hot Stove Baseball time. Here's the thread to use for any deals that get done, rumors you might hear or even a nice chat about how it will impact the upcoming baseball season, real or fantasy. I would imagine the big news of the off season is that the Padres are looking to deal off Jake Peavy. So far it looks like the Cubs and Braves are the front runners but one can never discount the desperate Yanks or the deep farm system of the Red Sox.
