  2. Will be announced before or after the CY Young award.
  3. Todd Jones resigns with Tigers for 7 mil.
  4. will be announced shortly.
  5. Braun won me a FB league. I drafted Tulowitzki but dropped him after a bad start.
  6. Funny you should say that. Rotoworld says, "We're not at all impressed with Ed Wade's first move as Houston's GM. Bourn could have a long career as a fair regular, but he's basically another Willy Taveras for the Astros. If Lidge's arrival in Philadelphia results in Brett Myers' return to the rotation, this could be a big winner for Pat Gillick. Geary is an average middle reliever and Costanzo's a long shot to have a career, so this basically boils down to Lidge for Bourn. Lidge is only under control for one more year, so it's not a huge slam dunk. Still, turning Myers back into a starter gives the Phillies a bigger rotation upgrade than they possibly could have picked up in free agency." IMO I think the Phillies should keep Myers as the closer, Lidge to set up and Gordon for the 7th. Almost makes it a 6 inning game. If this was actually the case, trying to sign a Kenny Rogers would be a smart move. 6 strong innings and then you hand it off to the closing team.
  7. Giants re-signed shortstop Omar Vizquel to a one-year, $5.3 million contract with a vesting option for 2009. Phillies acquire RHP Brad Lidge and infielder Eric Bruntlett from the Astros for outfielder Michael Bourn, RHP Geoff Geary and third baseman Mike Costanzo.
  8. Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, considered one of the most dangerous clutch hitters in the majors, has taken over the top spot from St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols in Major League Baseball's annual player rankings. Ortiz, who hit .332 with 35 homers and 117 runs batted in, received a perfect score of 100 according to the compilation by Elias Sports Bureau announced Wednesday. Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday, a leading candidate for National League MVP, finished second to Ortiz with 97.079. Holliday was the NL batting champion with a .340 average, and led the league in RBI (137), hits (216), doubles (50) and total bases (386). He hit 36 homers. Pujols, a perfect 100 last year, dropped to second behind Holliday among first basemen and outfielders, but his 96.667 was third best overall. 9. A solid 40 hr guy for 13 mil? I think the Reds have quite a bargain in todays market.
  10. NEW YORK (AP) - Moises Alou is staying with the New York Mets, and Damion Easley will return next season, too. The Mets exercised their $7.5 million option on Alou's contract Wednesday, bringing back the 41-year-old left fielder who was limited to 87 games this season because of a quadriceps injury. New York also re-signed Easley to a $950,000, one-year deal. The backup infielder and outfielder provided a boost off the bench in 2007 before a badly sprained left ankle ended his season on Aug. 18. When Alou was in the lineup, he produced. He batted .341 with 13 home runs, 49 RBIs and only 30 strikeouts in 328 at-bats during his first year with the Mets, who collapsed down the stretch and missed the playoffs. Also... The Dodgers continue to work toward a three-year deal with Joe Torre, but the two sides have yet to reach agreement on Torre becoming the team's next manager. Torre, 67, is still negotiating financial terms with the Dodgers, sources say, and his desire to bring several of his former coaches to Los Angeles could be a sticking point. The Dodgers' job opened Tuesday when Grady Little resigned as manager. Torre became the clear front-runner after Joe Girardi turned down the Dodgers to join the Yankees.
  11. Left fielder Adam Dunn will be back with the Reds for at least one more season. The Reds on Wednesday exercised Dunn's $13 million option for 2008. Dunn, who turns 28 on Nov. 9, is eligible for free agency at the end of the season. The exercising of his option triggers a clause in his contract giving him full no-trade protection until June 15. After that, Dunn could be traded to 10 clubs, but the list would be of his own choosing. Dunn batted .264 last season with 40 home runs and 106 RBIs — his fourth straight season of hitting 40 or more homers. The Reds likely will try to keep him long-term, but he could be one of the most attractive free agents in the class of 2008-09. Discuss

Smack in the middle of Game 4 of the World Series, Boras ended months of speculation and said A-Rod is opting out of the final three seasons of his contract with the New York Yankees. Oh, and Boras let the Yankees know by leaving a voice mail for general manager Brian Cashman. "Kind of strange timing," Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said after Boston completed its sweep of Colorado. Red Sox fans sure took notice fast. After their team won the title for the second time in four seasons, they stood behind the visitors' dugout at Coors Field and chanted: "Don't sign A-Rod!" In a decision that likely ends four tumultuous and unfulfilling seasons with the Yankees, Rodriguez forfeited $72 million he was owed over the final three seasons of his record $252 million, 10-year deal, which he signed with Texas before the 2001 season. The Yankees lose $21.3 million in remaining payments from the Rangers, a subsidy agreed to at the time of his 2004 trade. New York, which failed to make the World Series in all of Rodriguez's seasons, has said it would not attempt to re-sign A-Rod if he opted out. Hank Steinbrenner, a son of Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, reiterated that point Monday, dismissing the possibility of negotiations. "No chance," he said from Tampa. "Not if it's made official (filing letters on opting out). I haven't talked with Brian yet today." Full Story Here http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7381184 Discuss

  15. The year Canseco was on the Yankees (2000), they swept the Mets to win the World Series. I guess not starting Jose worked out for them.
  16. http://www.nbcsports.com/portal/site/nbcsp...00075c1d240RCRD I think Torre's time had come with the yankees. He got his team to 6 WS in 6 years winning 4 of them. Did a phenomenal job managing all the high priced personalities on this team and always carried himself with class and dignity. After the way Steinbrenner treated him this year, I'm glad Joe got to throw it back in his face. I wish he would have done it before the offer but still good enough. George handled this horribly and deserves to be embarrassed. The good news is we will hopefully be smart enough to snap up Girardi and give him a shot to bring some fire back to this team. My only concern with him is how would he manage all the money players. Will they respect him enough to listen? The bad news is Mariano and Posada might leave because of this. Jorge had a great seasoned and did some great off season training. Mariano 2 yrs - 32 million. Posada - 3yrs 35-40 million
  17. This is from Rivals.com. If anybody finds others, post them here. Click the link for all 25. http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=669521 1. NORTH CAROLINA — Rank in first poll: 3 The Tar Heels lose Brandan Wright but return Tyler Hansbrough (18.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg), Ty Lawson (10.2 ppg, 5.6 apg) and Wayne Ellington (11.7 ppg). All three considered making the leap to the NBA to varying degrees, but all three made the correct decision to return to Chapel Hill. Wright obviously will be missed, probably more on the defensive end where he ranked sixth in the ACC in blocks. 2006-2007 highlights 2. MEMPHIS — Rank in first poll: 8 Ten of the top 11 scorers return for John Calipari's Tigers, including leading scorer Chris Douglas-Roberts (15.4 ppg) and frontcourt beast Joey Dorsey (8.5 ppg, 9.4 rpg). The lone loss is a key one - senior Jeremy Hunt was Memphis' second-leading scorer and leader in 3-pointers. But the Tigers' recruiting class - led by five-star point guard Derrick Rose - is ranked No. 11 in the country by Rivals.com. The Tigers are ready to roar. 2006-2007 highlights 3. UCLA — Rank in first poll: 4 Junior guard Arron Afflalo has departed for the NBA and will not return. He was the Bruins' leading scorer (16.9 ppg), a top-notch defender and an on-court leader. Ben Howland did hang on to point guard Darren Collison (12.7 ppg, 5.7 apg) and forwards Josh Shipp (13.3 ppg) and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (8.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg). UCLA also welcomes Rivals.com's 14th-ranked recruiting class, led by five-star center Kevin Love. 2006-2007 highlights 4. LOUISVILLE — Rank in first poll: 9 The top seven scorers return for Rick Pitino's Cardinals from a team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Forward Terrence Williams, a rising junior, showed the kind of all-court game (12.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.8 apg) about which coaches dream. Put him with guard Edgar Sosa (11.4 ppg) and center David Padgett (9.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and you've got the makings of a Final Four team. 2006-2007 highlights 5. TENNESSEE — Rank in first poll: 11 The Vols had one senior last season, starter Dane Bradshaw. He led UT in assists, but truthfully Bruce Pearl's team should have little trouble compensating for the loss. Associated Press SEC Player of the Year Chris Lofton (20.8 ppg) considered the NBA but will be back for his senior season. Other key returnees include Jajuan Smith (15.2 ppg), Ramar Smith (10.7 ppg) and Wayne Chism (9.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg). 2006-2007 highlights 6. KANSAS — Rank in first poll: 6 The good news for Bill Self is that last year's roster didn't include a senior. The bad news is not everyone is returning. Leading scorer Brandon Rush (13.8 ppg) and leading rebounder Julian Wright (7.8 rpg) have entered the draft. Still, there is plenty of talent in Lawrence. The Jayhawks will have second-leading scorer Mario Chalmers (12.2 ppg), big man Darrell Arthur (9.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg) and Sherron Collins (9.3 ppg) to lean on next season. 2006-2007 highlights 7. INDIANA — Rank in first poll: 14 The Hoosiers climb the ranks in our poll on the strength of the return of D.J. White and a recruiting class that Rivals.com ranks ninth nationally. White (13.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg) mulled leaving for the NBA but made the right call to return. The gem of the recruiting class is five-star shooting guard Eric Gordon, the No. 2 overall prospect in the country. He'll pick up much of the scoring slack left by senior guards Rod Wilmont and Earl Calloway. 2006-2007 highlights 8. MICHIGAN STATE — Rank in first poll: 12 Tom Izzo's young Spartans took a few punches last season without a senior on the roster. They figure to be delivering the punches in 2007-08 behind guard Drew Neitzel (18.1 ppg, 4.3 apg) and forward Raymar Morgan (11.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg). Michigan State also looks forward to the addition of a recruiting class ranked 10th nationally by Rivals.com that includes a trio of four-star prospects. 2006-2007 highlights 9. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — Rank in first poll: 10 It's not often a team can lose its top three scorers and still check into a preseason poll in the top 10. It speaks volumes for what Tim Floyd is doing at USC. Underclassmen Nick Young (17.5 ppg) and Gabe Pruitt (12.5 ppg, 4.3 apg) have entered the draft, and Lodrick Stewart (13.8 ppg) finished his eligibility. But the Trojans will look to big man Taj Gibson (12.2 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and Rivals.com's No. 2 recruiting class, led by O.J. Mayo. 10. KANSAS STATE — Rank in first poll: 16 The biggest departure from the Wildcats program wasn't leading scorer Cartier Martin (17.1 ppg), it was coach Bob Huggins. But K-State managed to keep the rest of the staff intact by promoting Frank Martin to head coach and hanging on to assistant Dalonte Hill. That satisfied former five-star prospect Bill Walker, who mulled a transfer. The Wildcats also maintained their No. 1-ranked recruiting class, which is headed by Michael Beasley - Rivals.com's top-ranked prospect in the nation.

I still dont think anybody in the NFC is as good as the cowboys but the patriots have way to many weapons. They did all this without their RB. Dosent make for a kind SB.

Its a little late for guesses but Brady was just on fire today. I didnt like them scoring the TD with less trehn 2 minutes to go. Kinda unsportsmanlike. There's always next week.

I think the boys go as far as the D takes them. I'm starting to believe in Tony but still unsure. If Owens didnt drop 5 balls a game this offense would be much better.
