Posted July 9, 200619 yr comment_7321 After being scratched from his scheduled outing on Sunday with a strained oblique, Mark Prior is questionable to make his first start after the break. Prior, who was reportedly hurt in batting practice Saturday, is scheduled to pitch next Sunday. "We're going to play it by ear," he said. "This morning, I felt good getting up and sneezed and realized it wasn't getting any better. Hopefully, after four days, it'll be all right. I'm mad. ... I've never had a problem with my side." If Prior goes on the DL, Carlos Marmol will start July 16 rather than be skipped the first time through after the break. John Patterson left Sunday's game in the second inning with a right forearm strain. It's the same injury that had Patterson on the DL for two months, though there's likely more going on with his elbow than what the Nationals know about or are admitting. If he goes back on the DL, the Nationals can replace him with Tony Armas Jr. after the break.
July 19, 200619 yr Author comment_7430 John Patterson will undergo exploratory surgery on Thursday to examine the median nerve and lacertus fibrosis in his right forearm. The Nationals haven't declared him out for the year, but a return in 2006 is quite a long shot. The club should just be hoping that he'll be 100 percent at the start of next year.
July 20, 200619 yr comment_7432 Prior was actually waived in one of my leagues, but I didn't pick him up.
