March 10, 200619 yr Author comment_5851 lmao up 47-19 at half-time. Teams dont do this well in the conference tourneys. Notice a lot of other great teams are barely winning or are actually losing. We were up by 30 and they made a layup at the buzzer to cut it to 28.
March 10, 200619 yr Author comment_5867 Well we play again in less than 11 hours. Not as easy teams from now on and we must win today and tomorrow morning to have a great shot at a #1 seed.
March 10, 200619 yr Author comment_5901 On to the conference championship game tomorrow morning. It's on at 11:30 A.M. (ET) on CBS if anyone wants tow atch us hopefully win and get a #1 seed.
March 12, 200619 yr Author comment_5942 Look at how many states say Memphis will be the other #1 seed. And in Michigan we are only 1% behind in voting and we also are winning in international voting. Out of the 50 states we have the most votes in 45 of them. But I have a feeling the people deciding this will backstab us as usual.
March 13, 200619 yr Author comment_5965 Already everyone saying Memphis will be beat quick. Vitale has us going to elite 8 and everyone else has us losing in sweet 16. Some even say we could lose the FIRST GAME. What a shocker they set us up with a good 16 seed. There are only 5 of the top 25 scorers in the nation in the ncaa tournament and 1 is on oral roberts!
March 17, 200619 yr Author comment_6106 Less than 11 hours until tipoff. The players and Calipari arent pleased with the talk that we could be the first #1 to ever lose to a #16. So hopefully we indeed play good. Even an Oral Roberts player said Memphis is getting less respect than the other #1's. I am used to past teams choking so I am still nervous. But as long as our players aren't nervous they would win a lot of games....
March 17, 200619 yr Author comment_6114 Memphis has never lost on this date. We are 7-0 all-time. Hopefully the trend continues today. Against Oral Roberts we have won 4 straight times. One miracle game happened with us in 1987. We were losing by 8 points with about 30 seconds left. We then hit 3 3's to win by 1 point.
March 21, 200619 yr Author comment_6173 Wow, we are only 6 and 1/2 point favorites against a #13 seed. Meanwhile Duke and UCONN are that big of favorites against great teams. They sure don't like considering us on those guys' level! I hope we do win the national championship by having to beat Duke or Texas and then UCONN.
March 24, 200619 yr Author comment_6233 sportsline actually lists us as having a moderate edge over UCLA. Kind of surprises me. I am a bit worried but I know if we play how we can, we could even beat THEM by 16 like the other 3 we have won against.
March 26, 200619 yr Author comment_6252 Our players didn't want to win this game. Pretty simple. Even Carney just said it wasn't UCLA's defense, it was us "playing terrible". Anyway congrats to UCLA for winning in a home game against a team that had the better seed than them and was supposed to thus get better home court advantage than them. Not to mention they lost their last game but the refs let ucla slide across the floor with a few seconds left and called a jump ball instead of traveling. I wouldn't say the refs messed up THAT much this game to hurt us though. Although mighty fishy how ucla shot tons mroe free throws.
March 26, 200619 yr comment_6253 Both teams just had a really awful game. Oh well at least UCLA won!!!!!!!!!!
March 26, 200619 yr Author comment_6254 At least Memphis went further than anyone else's team of the people from amg or here except Jenn's is in the final 4. Chad's lost before mine, colin and jaime's lost before mine, etc etc. But unbelievable that we STILL had MANY chances to win and TERRIBLY threw the ball away time after time instead of slowing down and taking our time. We were within 4 late. Also we finally made 2 3-pointers at the end so I am sure if we had shot even just a FEW more of them the second half instead of stopping them TOTALLY, we would have made it back to win. I dunno whether I will even watch every game last year like I have for 14 straight years. What is the point? To watch them play a crappy conference so no game matters until the tournament. Another year of us choking as usual. Although I still consider it a success. We started the season #11 and we finished in the top 8 in the tournament and also we set the school record with 33 wins and we may end up having more wins than all teams, depending who wins and loses. I now hope uconn and villanova both lose tomorrow. Then let's see them talk bad about memphis when the other #1's all are gone.
March 28, 200619 yr Author comment_6260 Wow, now rumors say Calipari is negotiating with Indiana. This happens every year, but what worries me this time is that apparently he even went as far as to request changes to Indiana's facilities, just like he did in Memphis before signing here. It is stupid that coaches can get out of contracts with YEARS left on them. He should be forced to stay the duration of a contract! If he leaves, our team is history. Just like his leaving UMASS destroyed that school's team for good. It hasn't come close to good seasons since then. Yet his final 4 years there he got them to the sweet 16 twice, the elite 8, and the final 4.
March 29, 200619 yr Author comment_6267 Yes! no Indiana for Calipari. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/news;_ylt=As...ov=ap&type=lgns
April 5, 200619 yr Author comment_6317 Calipari is a host on the best damn sports show period tonight on the fox sports channels. He hosted yesterday too and I didnt know it.
April 27, 200619 yr Author comment_6448 Darius Washington and Shawne Williams announced they are making themselves eligible for the NBA draft. 1. Rodney Carney will for sure be a top 10 pick, maybe top 5. 2. Darius Washington will ahve a tough time being drafted, but he has no choice really because we have a star PG coming in so there probably would not be room for Darius anymore. 3. Shawne Williams wants to be a top 20 pick. Calipari said if he is not a top 12 pick he would suggest Shawne change his mind and come back to Memphis. Calipari also said if he and the other coaches do their jobs properly next year, we should have 3 more going pro next year. He was saying that we should get even better and better recruits now because the nation's high schoolers will now see that Calipari and the other coaching staff ehre kinow how to get players to the pros quick. He also said the program is set up to where we will be a top 10 team AT LEAST for the next 5 years, even if he were to leave at some pointt o go to another school.
June 29, 200619 yr Author comment_7143 Pretty unbelievable Darius Washngton didn't even getd rafted. They kept constantly talking about how great he did at overcoming the missed freethrows that cost us an NCAA berth. Yet he never was the same again at all (mainly due to injury though). And back then he was potential first round material and now he did not even get drafted. Shawne Williams was the big surprise. He was picked by many to go around 30-35 and he went at 17, right after Carney. ALso almost all were saying Carney then Redick, but it went reverse. And I thought Morrison at #1 was such a lock that I didn't put a bet up on it and he wasn't even selected #1.
August 8, 200619 yr Author comment_7518 U of M opens their basketball season on November 20'th against Oklahoma in Hawaii. There are a few great teams in that tournament, such as Kentucky and UCLA. We can pay UCLA back for kicking us in the elite 8 last season because of our terrible shooting that game.
August 8, 200619 yr Author comment_7521 Wow I didn't realize that last month we got the #47 best prospect in the nation, which is VERY unheard of for July right before the season is coming up. He was with national champions Florida starting this coming season, but didn';t meet some guideines and now we have another star on our team.
November 10, 200619 yr Author comment_7748 Derrick Rose, the #1 point guard in all of high school basketball and a consensus top 5 player overall nationally, has chosen Memphis over Indiana and Illinois for next season, even though we already have a top freshman point guard starting this season also.
November 17, 200619 yr Author comment_7785 We won by 42 in our first game of the season. Now off to Hawaii to play Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
December 29, 200619 yr Author comment_7866 We won our last couple games by a lot, after losing to #7 Arizona by only 8 and shoulda won.
February 11, 200719 yr Author comment_7951 Memphis won their 13'th straight game to go to 21-3 on the season Saturday. At one point we were winning by 51 and ended up winning by 44. Our team is AWESOME. Despite losing our starting point guard of last year and two studs to the NBA before this season started, this team is turning into an even better team than last year's, which was within a few points of the final 4. Today we had 12 of our 14 players score. One of the other two only missed out because our other guy interfered with the basket or it would have been 13 guys scoring. We have AT LEAST 10 guys who could be starters on other teams in the country, and honestly I think our absolute worst players could start on many teams. Final score: 95-51. Also Butler lost, so we will move up to #9 on the coach's poll and stay #8 on the AP poll. Gonzaga's top player was arrested for drugs and will not play against us next week. So we SHOULD be 23-3 at the end of next week. Our final record last year I believe was 33-4.
