Just to get this started here is a question I recieved last night. Notice that Jason didnt just ask the question he mentioned a bit about his team. That always makes evaluating a trade easier.

My answer was,

yes but your getting the best closer in baseball. I would throw in rietsma since I believe Joey Devine will open the season as the braves closer or if anything he will be the closer at some point this year and get 25-30 saves with Brad lidge type K's.

Edit - Just noticed you had a seperate section for fantasy sports so If you want to move it there, be my guest. my bad.

Those are some pretty weak options but it will only be a matter of time before you find a quality replacement. Thats what your usually good at.

Everybody wants a power and speed guy. Unfortunately there are only a handful of them available. I would narrow down the choice to Kinsler, Hawpe or Ibanez.

Kinsler is one of my sleeper picks for second base and could finish with 280/15/70. His numbers will be a lil higher if he bats second and maybe a bit lower if he bats 8th or 9th.

Hawpe plays in Colorado so you know he will get bursts of power out of him. Right now he is injured with a groin injury so if you choose him, pay close attention to that. Also Ryan Shealy will be pushing him for playing time if he gets off to a rough start or misses any signifigant time.

Ibanez is a solid option. You know what you'll get out of him every year. He's no stud but always seems to produce around a 290/20/85 season.

Jones still can't hit lefties.

Roberts will always be a risk because of his hamstrings.(already tweaked it)

Swisher is an option just not one of my top 3.

Reed and Burke are having nice springs so they might be the leader in the second tier of options to provide speed but not much else. Definetly would take the risk on them over roberts.

Ok here's my question. This is for CBS league

I have Arod. I also drafted Beltre as a utility slot. Some guy wants arod from me bad. He has already offered me Pedro,Ensberg and Huff. I think I could get Matsui out of him as well if I add another playter in.

Here's my hitters as of now

Howard, Figgins,Arod, reyes, berkman, burrell, gathright, gomes and 'sigh, shawn green. Beltre and Thome are utility.

Pitching is

zito, schilling, mulder, escobar, D Cabrera, valverde, Street, Gonzalez.

So I need another good OF I think. I have SBs locked up with reyes, figgins and gathright. I would like to do something like Arod, Green for ensberg, pedro, huff and matsui.

Hafner is having a great season.

Well I give crazy amounts for arod too as long as I feel like I am deep enough to deal off a few. I personally would like to hang on to arod though so I am not sure if I would deal him. rj and haffner for arod alone is a good deal for him though and would possibly be smart. But if you need an OFer, hafner isnt eligible there is he?

You're so annoying. Last year you never shut your mouth about how great Benson was going to be because of the mets' pitching coach. And now with Leo in Baltimore he has more shot at it this year than last with the failure mets coach who had them all underperforming last year. How good my roster is has NOTHING to do with who is AVAILABLE. I drafted Clemens and Need to obviously get a new starter to put in his place. Bedard has been ROCKED. I dont control who is on free agency. So in your world, I should leave an inactive starter in instead of those guys, right?

And Wily Mo is the Pena, but now since he wont even be a starter, so much for that idea.

Why couldnt you just say "yea I'm desperate for starters and I think these are the 2 best available." Your so long winded sometimes.

Benson was last year. Opinions change from year to year based on performance. Benson is now in the AL, has to face the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Devil Rays lineup 19 times each. He should get 10 wins with a 4.5 era and 4 k's a game if that. I dont remember Odalis Perez ever being good. 1 good, not great year way back in, I think, 2002. He's an avg pitcher at best. Same as Benson.

Why don't you take a shot on a rookie like Scott Baker or Justin Verlander.

Why is Burnett woth Berkman? Burnett has a career record or 49-50 with a 3.73 era. He has never K'd more then innings pitched and that was in the NL in a pitchers Park. Now he goes to the AL team that plays in a homer factory stadium. I don't even have to discuss his injury history.

Berkman is a consistent 300/30/100 guy. Easily a top 10 of that also qualifies at 1b. And if this is cbs league when alou gets hurt you have to sit him for a couple weeks cause there is no dl spot.

comment_6190

Berkman isnt CLOSE to cinsistant. He has been hurt now for 2 or 3 straight years at some point or another. And plus 30 homers is nothing. I can get waiver wire people who will get more than 30. Burnett's past means nothing either, because if you paid attention you would notice he has thrown a no-hitter and has had VERY huge strikeput games. Just because it hasn't lasted a whole season doesnt mean he wont break out and have a year better than a Santana.

What young guys do you like this year? I always mess up on them. The main one i feel like I have been overlooking is Sizemore. I need to try to draft a younger team Sunday. But I think I shouldn't draft over a few because they are less predictable than stars.

Some guys I need to take on some teams are texiera, sizemore, liriano, wright, and beckett as a little older one. Maybe some other first and second year guys.

Well Teixera is a top 4 pick. Liriano is going to the minors for now but grab him when he comes back up. I'm staying away from beckett this year because of his shoulder issues. I keep hearing about them but then I hear about him throwing 96 so I dunno. I just avoid things like that. Im' not to sure about sizemore. Everybody seems to like him but I have stayed away because he is going like 4th/5th round.

I LOVE Ryan Howard. I am tasking him as early as 3rd round over guys like delgado and konerko.

As u know I think Joey Devine becomes the closer as early as may but no later then June.

Ian Kinsler is my sleeper 2nd baseman as well as Jose Castillo.

Josh Willingham is my catcher of choice everywhere this year.

I'm also big on Mike Gonzalez as the Pirates closer. Mesa racked up saves last year and I expect him to do the same.

comment_6226

Hmm. Well I am high on Howard too, but he goes so early. I dont know that I would risk him over 6th or 7th rounds... because you know how some guys end up struggling when you think they wont because they end up being too young.

Kinsler actually is a FA in a league of mine, I believe. Or maybe both.

CBS predicts only 10 saves from Devine then 10 from someone else other than retisma also.
