I have installed chat for the forum. It is much much better than Invision's chat and is a lot less expensive also. It integrates in with this Invision forum though flawlessly. If anyone ever comes here and is active this would be nice since only forum members can get in.

I will be nice and let you know that if you see GotTalker in the lounge, it is a bot. :) So when the online list for chat at the bottom of the forum's front page says 1 user is in it, yet shows nobody... it is the bot. I set it up to have the bot come in ONLY when there is 0 or 1 human user in the chat. So when someone enters, it will disappear.

You can create your own rooms and even invite members into them if they don't go in them themselves. I have set your created rooms to disappear FIVE MINUTES after the room becomes empty. So youhave 5 mins to re-enter to keep the room alive.

You can change your username color, skin color, background color, use smileys (many which arent listed, I believe), private message users in the chat, see their actual Got Talk profiles, set avatars (not sure exactly how), and many other things.

You can also do commands to make things happen. For example, you can do a command to show part of the chat from before you got into the room. /backtime is the command for this. Very cool. by the way, all convos are logged. So dont attack people. I will delete them every so often though to free up space probably.

WHEN LEAVING, click the X in the upper right of the chat room, rather than CLOSING the window or your name will not properly log out in some cases and people will think you are still in the room!

I can make new sounds, smileys, skins, etc... later on when I get a chance.

Here are some commands you, as users, can use in the chats:

Options for Users

Where you see around words, you do NOT include those in the commands.

/away Sets user as away. Typing this command again sets user as "here". This action may also slow down the chat ping time for the "away" user, depending on the setting of msgRequestIntervalAway, which is set in /inc/config.php

/here Sets user as here. This reverses the "away" and "busy" states.

/busy Sets user as busy. Typing this command again sets user as "here".

/back Shows the last entries of the room's chat, including any chat text that was present before arrival to the room.

/backtime Shows the last minutes of the room's chat, including any chat text that was present before arrival to the room.

/clear Clears the chat screen. This only affects your screen, not the screen of other users.

/me Issues an IRC-like "action" to the chat. "/me" will be changed to your user name, and the text in will appear as a system message. For example: "/me is thinking" would translate to "Joe is thinking".

/join Switches the user to . For example: "/join The Lounge"

/part Logout of the chat. /quitLogout of the chat.

/logout Logout of the chat.

/version Shows which version of the chat you are using.

/invite Invites "user" to the room that you are currently in.

/ignore Ignores "user" until /unignore "user" is issued

/? Display a list of currently available IRC commands.

/helpall Display a list of all available IRC commands.

/whowas This only works when FlashChat is used in a registered-users manner (not the "free for all" chat mode). Shows profile page for any registered user.

/whois Same as /whowas, but the user must be logged in.

/motd Displays the message of the day, as defined in /appdata/motd.txt

/sos alerts moderator in the current room of your message. Message text is optional. Message behaves like an /alert

/names Shows a list of all user names in all public rooms.

/showignores Shows who you are ignoring, and who is ignoring you

notes: for bactimee you must put a number after it. So /backtime 20 will show the chat from 20 minutes back until present. If everyone leaves the chat apparently it will not show back when someone re-enters.

Also, you MAY need to turn off popup blockers to get in or to get profiles of members because they all open in new windows.

When you log in, if your name happens to be invisible in the chat, youneed to click the color box near the bottom and change the color and your name will show up then. Or put your arrow by the avatar and it will show the name.

when i said click the X when logging off, I mean the one at the top of the CHAT area, NOT the actual browser window x.

Sad fact: To have GotTalker in there, I used more DB than all of the posts and ALL other stuff on this forum which is in the DB. I could add however many more without taking more space though, it took a lot of space for the knowledgebases to have the bot smarter. I can actually download more some time.

The most useful commands for you guys to remember are /backtime /clear and /?

I didnt know this, but I can teach it things.

btw, some commands seem to not work if you have them bold for some reason.

I changed the setting where if you dont type for 5 hours, you're kicked. I know that is way too long, but it WAS 24 hours. I will lower it more later on.

You can change the icons (avatars) in the options menu. Many other cool things to change in it also and I can change some things in general. Don't forget to click "ok" when done or it wont save, though.

Somehow it isnt logging convos really. Only for a few minutes. Not sure why.

I just changed the chat legend at the bottom of the index page. It now shows proper colors and also has several options for the window size. I don't see much point in the window sizes really, however.

I am going to add another small, but cool modification to the forum in a few. I'm just going to keep adding and improving all I can, no matter tha activity level.

Anyone who uses the chat remember you click the X at the topof the actual chat window (under your toolbars), not the actual browser X.

I like using silver gradient, I think. And I like the "yeah" smiley. I also like the sounds. If you go into the options, you can enable some sounds which arent always there. I enabled everything. Pretty cool sound effects.

If it ever gets active, I will add this other thing where it can have mp3 files for you to listen to while chatting and online radio stations.

Wow, guys you're missing a cool thing by not using chat. I just messed with it a few minutes and noticed a few things I didnt pay attention to. I should have known them from reading the commands earlier in this topic.

1. If someone is annoying you or breaking rules, even if a mod isnt in your room but is in some other room, all you do is /sos and a message. For example /sos chad is being an idiot would send me a message, no matter what room I am in (as a popup message in the chat) saying "(YOUR USERNAME) has sent you an SOS and said chad is being an ifiot". Then once I click ok, YOU receive a popup in your chat room saying that I read it.

2. After clicking on the room names on the right of the screen, if you click a user's username you can do options with it rather than having to do those /command. You can look at their profile and several other things.

3. You can invite someone from another room to your name by clicking their name and doing it or by using /invite.

4. You can have provate chats by clicking the person's name also. It makes a little window almost like AIM windows popup. So basically it is like you are using AIM, but only Got Talk members can be in it. Quite a cool feature, especially when people may not all use the same IM types normally. If you minimize the window, all you have to do to maximize it is click a little square by the user's name on the right of the screen to maximize it back uo.

5. You can share files with people in the chat. Currently only picture and zip files and about 500K or less, but I can probably change that.

Another note: An upgrade is out where I can allow you to do video chat and voice chat in it! If you all would ever use chat i would get that. Youc an only do it in 1 browser type. i cant remember if it is firefox or internet explorer.

Thought I moved this, but guess not.

I just upgraded to Flashchat 4.4.2.

It had some bug where usernames werent showing up in it, but I DLed a file that fixed that. Hopefully all will work EXCEPT right now it wont show display names if you have one diff than your username.

As for what is different, just some little things in appearance and options really. A few new commands. etc etc.

I havent put a bot in it. I may, but just figured why do it now while nobody even uses it.

If something goes wrong in it, let me know.

I set it up where you can share bigger files in it. The file will stay on my server for an hour then be deleted automatically. Once everyone leaves a newly made room, it will close in 5 minutes. Logs of convos are stored 24 hours. I will allow you to stay idle for 2 hours then it will kick you.

I spent all night with flashchat because it was having issues. I THOUGHT it was letting regular members in the admin panel, but found out it is not. And in chat it has "ban" as an option even for members so I thought something was up. But me and Viper tested it and it wont let members ban anyone. Just lets me. So I guess everything is ok. A few bugs left though.

I made a hidden room and a locked room. That chat could be awesome if anyone used it. Only 4 people have been in it and I believe all 4 agree it is quite cool. You can also share files in it, use it like AIM, go into password protected rooms, MAKE your own rooms, invite people in them, etc. Veyr nice.

This is so sad that in the past 10 days the post count has added to almost the same # of posts we had on August 24'th alone. And August 23'rd had almost as many as the 24'th. Don't mean to keep whining about it. I just now how cool it could be if I get it active.
