No other channel really can compete with FX except maybe HBO. The Shield, Rescue Me, Over There and the soon to start season 3 of Nip/Tuck.

Don't get me wrong but regular tv (cbs,nbc.fox,abc and WB) have some good shows but none really compete with the sharp writing, controversial subjects and superb acting of these shows. Regular TV is full of way to much fluff shows that middle america loves to see. FX has found a niche in creating these shows that go beyond the normal garbage and gives u something to talk about after the shows finish. Kudos to FX for creating such compelling television.
