Why hasn't there been a topic for this yet? Thankfully people are starting to be relocated to the Agrodome now, but it's gunna take a while for all the water to be pumped out of New Orleans. Many houses have been looted, however now the guard's guarding the houses, and have been told to shoot on anyone who tries to loot. Bush is receiving critisism about not attending to the crisis early enough.

This pretty much covers it. "The natural disaster that wiped out a coastal city and was compared by a few Americans to “Hiroshima”, is taking a political toll on President George Bush whose response to the tragedy was neither prompt nor efficient.

The leader’s belated visit to the hurricane-stricken area materialised but the photo opportunities, the finely-tuned, at times, contradictory statements, and the show of sympathy did not dampen the fury of his critics and the flood-victims.

The Bush administration is now fighting on two fronts, trying to tackle a big humanitarian crisis while stemming the rising tide of criticism of its failure to take preventive action and to provide adequate rescue and relief services.

The President is having to defend even more the deployment of resources and manpower to Iraq. He says there are enough troops and money to provide relief at home and to fight the war abroad.

Mr Bush said many right things during his tour of the devastated cities but he also kept adjusting and readjusting his formulations while trying to sympathise with the victims, promising federal aid and expressing optimism about the future.

At one place, he said the response of the emergency management agencies was satisfactory but the results were not. Earlier, he said the situation was “unacceptable”."

no the one that was supposed to come turn north-east, but it's said that it is gonna take 6 months to drain out all the water, My little sister's school has a kid coming tuesday from New Orleans, he is one of the evacuees.

I may add a question: If they saw the sample of what would happen worst case scenario, why didnt they try to make the wall stronger or sumthin?, cuz that wall would not stand a chance against rushing water from a hurricane and then surge is too much for 1 wall. why not put 3 or 4 or even 5?

There were reports a couple of days ago that there were ppl being beaten, raped, killed, finally nat. gaurd.

One of my mom's students dad is over there right now, he does Nat. Gaurd

I havent watched hardly any news on this the whole week. I am retarded. Now I wish i had watched some of it. Not the bad stuff really, but just to see what everything looked like back then.

I justr ead an article and it is much worse than i thought. They claimed after the hurricane was leaving New Orleans that "50" people died in it. So i was like wow this was pretty bad, but not that terrible. Now I read this article and it said they expect to find THOUSANDS of bodies.

I read about people being beaten to death, people commiting suicide by jumping off buildings, babies dying in shelters from heat exhaustion, and many dead people lying all around the superdome which people had tow alk past to get to buses and evacuate.

So much worse than I realized.

This is why people are dumb not to evacuate when there is a chance of this. For any who COULDNT, they tried and they either couldnt get far enough or ran out of gas, that is one thing. but people who are like "oh it wont be that bad"... *sigh* hopefully people at least learn that this is a serious matter whent ehy are warned tro evacuate.

It's like tornadoes. I get kind of worried during them, but I dumbly dont go anywhere to try to prevent them from harming me if they did come here!

As for evacuees in your area, some Texas guy from my mom's work was saying what a huge # of evacuees have gone to TX.
