Posted November 14, 200817 yr comment_10825 If anyone has suggestions for categories or suggestions to make the system better, let me know. I ams till trying to figure out how to do categories Aaron wants because I ahve it set up with those left side ratings that breaks things down into categories which would be weird for some things, such as wine. I guess for restaurants I could have those be mexican, chinese, etc etc to break them down into categories. But for wines there wouldn't be many categories. I probably should make it where for categories which don't have a need for that left table... it only show the right one, but then it would look weird that way too. Sigh.
November 16, 200817 yr Author comment_10843 What would be some things to rate wine on? And I wonder what categories I could break it into. Or I could do drinks in general and thus be able to allow for beer and other liquor categories... But anyway other than value/price and taste I'm not sure what else they could be rated on. How "smoothe" of a drink maybe. Blah. It's going to end up having very little to rate them on.
November 17, 200817 yr Author comment_10848 Haven't heard back from you so I really can't add it. It's an area where I am not an expert at knowing which things you would rate it on. I could do just a few things if I need to, but it would be kind of weird with nothing at all to rate when other types of products have many things to rate. Once again, my reasoning when deciding to have so many thigns to rate products on... was that no other review system allows you to sort products by those things. It makes it where, for instance, you can sort all movies by visuals, for example.
November 17, 200817 yr comment_10852 color acidity tannic level smell taste finish value You can also put an option for What region its from, and what varietal.
November 17, 200817 yr Author comment_10853 Are there many categories I could put? In other words, type of wines. Or maybe I should make it for any liquor, not just wine? This is one area where the review system is more annoying because it's built around trying to get a lot of details rated and break things into categories, but some things aren't as good for doing that way. I try to match up the number of categories and the number of rateable features where it doesn't look crappy with one table a different size than the other. But in some cases it just can't be helped. I considered having those tables only show the top 5 categories/features and then a link to see the full tables, that way they could look even on the product page even if they ahve different numbers of things rated in them. As far as which region, if there aren't many possible ones I could use those for categories. If there may be a large number of possibilities then I can't really do anything yet. I forget if I mentioned it in the 4.0.0 topic, but I am considering adding "custom fields". If I do that, it would be a case where I could add the location custom field for this. In fact I am sure I will add that, but not sure if I can do it quickly. Ogghand I can't think of all the changes it would take to do it. I guess I would add the custom field to the parent category and then when you write the review it would check to see if there are custom fields, if so ask you to fill it in, do another check when it adds, a check when it displays, aa check when editing, and a check when doing the actual editing. So anyway, long story short: custom fields I am planning on adding, but not sure if I will today. I still am working on testing my other changes and I want to redo the report system where it doesn't annoyingly send me a PM with every report, and instead stores the reason in a table and I see it when I approve/decline etc etc.
November 18, 200817 yr Author comment_10865 Just a note: I really want to add a couple new things over the next day or two which I think are needed mainly for ME to be able to better test things and to resolve issues if people claima problem is happening with stats distribution.
November 19, 200817 yr Author comment_10872 Look how many review system bugs. Over 20 I ahve found and fixed since 4.0.0 and now the total number for me and compguy is at 222. I also skip making reports for some bugs I fix, so it's probably been more like 300-400. I don't have much left to test later today, but it would be easy to ahve bugs in this still, as it is a very complicated, thorough system. The main thing I am wondering about is the adding review process. When you add it for a NEW product, it gets complicated trying to update other people's awaiting products to be sure duplicates don't get added. Also Aaron needs to get back to me about what to do about the wines. Not sure if there are a lot of countrues or only a few. You may have to just add in your review where it's from. Color on your list would be more of a category. Popularity would be another rating type to add though, as I'm sre you know which ones are more popular than others.
November 21, 200817 yr Author comment_10883 So not fun testing all of this. I finally am done testing everything except one other thing and everything finally seems fine. As far as the category you requested, you still haven't got back to me though. For now I am probably not adding extra questions on the form, so I ened to know what possibilities there are for location the wine is from or else you could just post it in the review itself if there are too many choices to warrant me adding them as categories on the category rating section. Thanks.
November 22, 200817 yr Author comment_10887 ok I think I have everything fine for using the system now and I am hopefully going to take a break from coding it and actually use it some. Still waiting on you as far as what I will do for those categories though. There was more I wanted to add as far as features also, but I am unsure on some decisions so I am waiting before adding new features.
November 22, 200817 yr comment_10891 Region examples are, Napa, sonoma, monterrey, lodi, Oregon, Washington, NY, chile, argentina, australian, spain. Italy and France have multiple regions. Color is a category because each varietal has different color standards.
November 22, 200817 yr Author comment_10892 Hmm, it's tricky though. Color as in a rateable entity or color as in telling whether it's red or white, for example? It's just a really tricky category so it won't ened up being set up in an ideal way, but that will just have to be the case with some categories which don't fit perfectly into the setrup. By the way I keep trying to stop adding features, but I thought of ANOTHER unique feature today, so I may add that now or may wait. I really ened a break though!
