Posted November 8, 200817 yr comment_10788 Ok Ladies and Germs its that time of year. The World Series has ended, awards are about to be given out and players are filing for free agency. Its Hot Stove Baseball time. Here's the thread to use for any deals that get done, rumors you might hear or even a nice chat about how it will impact the upcoming baseball season, real or fantasy. I would imagine the big news of the off season is that the Padres are looking to deal off Jake Peavy. So far it looks like the Cubs and Braves are the front runners but one can never discount the desperate Yanks or the deep farm system of the Red Sox.
November 8, 200817 yr Author comment_10790 According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Cardinals have offered Ryan Ludwick, Skip Schumaker, and RHP Mitchell Boggs for Matt Holliday
November 8, 200817 yr comment_10791 I heard Chris Davis is already predicted to hit 40 homers next year. OK I am sick of losing in flb leagues after I once mastered them, so this off-season I need to DO.MY.HOMEWORK. and not have a bad draft!

You lost because you didnt have my full undivided attention this year.
November 10, 200817 yr Author comment_10801 The Oakland A's are close to acquiring left fielder Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies, a baseball source told MLB.com. Though the source said the "talks are fluid," the Rockies would net three players in the deal: closer Huston Street, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez and left-handed pitcher Greg Smith.
November 11, 200817 yr Author comment_10803 According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Nationals have picked up Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham from the Marlins for Emilio Bonifacio and a package of minor leaguers. Two of the minor leaguers are right-hander P.J. Dean and infielder Jake Smolinski. Unless there's someone much better going to Florida that we don't know about yet, this could be a huge steal for the Nationals. We wouldn't trade either Olsen or Willingham for that trio, much less both. If the Marlins like Bonifacio that much, it could mean that Dan Uggla is on the way out. The Nats could pencil in Willingham at first base and then move him to the outfield if Nick Johnson is healthy. Source: Rotoworld
November 11, 200817 yr Author comment_10809 SI.com's Jon Heyman says the White Sox are listening to offers for Bobby Jenks, and the Mets will attempt to trade for the 27-year-old closer.
November 13, 200817 yr Author comment_10818 CBSSports.com's Scott Miller believes the Padres will soon ask Jake Peavy to waive his no-trade clause to complete a deal to Atlanta. Miller thinks the deal involves Yunel Escobar, Gorkys Hernandez, either Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes and one more pitcher, possibly Blaine Boyer or prospect Jeff Locke. November 13, 200817 yr comment_10821 The Yankess are so smart. They traded for Swisher, who played horribly this season (probably had eben on steroids) and then they give Marte $12 million for 3 years.
November 14, 200817 yr Author comment_10822 I am not the biggest fan of Swisher but they didnt give away much and swisher gives them an option for 1st of the OF. So if they dont sign texiera, swisher plays first. I totally agree about Marte. What the hell was that about? A 34 yr old avg middle reliever gets 12 mil? Ridiculous.
November 14, 200817 yr comment_10824 Meanwhile better players get much less. For instance Canseco was getting less when he last played.
November 14, 200817 yr Author comment_10828 Cubs acquired RHP Kevin Gregg from the Marlins for RHP Jose Ceda.
November 15, 200817 yr Author comment_10837 A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com that the Yankees have had "numerous discussions" with the Padres about Jake Peavy. Its about F'n Time.
November 16, 200817 yr Author comment_10844 Sources within the baseball industry believe CC Sabathia may be getting pressure from the Players Association to accept the six-year, $140 million offer from the Yankees.
November 16, 200817 yr comment_10846 Pathetic. They're so greedy and only caring about themselves. I hope he turns it down and accepts less elsewhere.
November 19, 200817 yr Author comment_10867 Cubs re-signed RHP Ryan Dempster to a four-year, $52 million contract. The fourth year is actually a player option. Dempster gets a $4 million signing bonus, $8 million next year, $12.5 million in 2010 and $13.5 million in 2011. It will be his choice whether he returns for 2012 at $14 million. Dempster receives the massive deal even though he's had just two good seasons as a starter, those coming eight years apart. He was one of the NL's top pitchers last season, and his peripherals suggest that he can keep it up. Still, his previous record makes him difficult to trust. Source: Rotoworld
December 3, 200817 yr Author comment_10945 According to ESPN.com, the White Sox will trade Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan to the Braves for Jo-Jo Reyes, Brent Lillibridge and a prospect. Ken Rosenthal agrees that the deal has been agreed to, but he doesn't think Reyes is involved. On the other hand, he believes young slugger Tyler Flowers might be going to Chicago in the trade. It sounds like it will be a good deal for the Braves, though there's really no need for Logan to be involved. They already have seven relievers better than him.
December 5, 200817 yr Author comment_10960 Braves acquired RHP Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan from the White Sox for catcher Tyler Flowers, infielder Brent Lillibridge, third baseman Jon Gilmore and LHP Santos Rodriguez. After a couple of days to think about it, it's still looking like a nice trade for Braves. Flowers is the only player they're all that likely to miss, and with Brian McCann installed at catcher and a very good first base prospect in Freddie Freeman at about the same level as Flowers, they were definitely dealing from a strength there. Vazquez has thrown at least 198 innings in nine straight seasons, going over 215 in six of them. He's never reached his full potential, but he's pretty much the ideal No. 3 starter, at least in the regular season. The Braves will have him at $11.5 million for each of the next two seasons. December 15, 200817 yr comment_10998 I assume if I made a "indians = stupid?" topic you would agree with that one? They signed Kerry Wood to more than $10 mil per year. What a way to replace their last overpaid closer.... an injury-prone new one. lol The Yankees signed A.J. Burnett.
December 23, 200817 yr comment_11040 Since the Yankees never have a chance without trying to grossly outspend others (and even then they STILL lose), they ahve now added Teixeira to go along with Sabathia and Burnett as offseason pick ups. Gotta love the Mets and Yankees. They are spending like nuts and they both always choke.
