Some guest on the Today SHow was just talking about how most people think that paying off a credit card and closing the account will give them a better chance of being approved for loans. In reality the length of time you've had your credit cards, paying them on time, and having low balances are all important. If you close the account it is supposedly actually one of the "worst" things to do.

Also your credit score is worsened if a lot of people keep requesting your score. You can request your own without it lowering it though.

I wonder how much it is affected by not paying on time. I think I've forgotten about 3 times in 12 years.

I dont know how much mising a payment effects it. If you find out, id be interested in knowing. i think iv e missed a couple times in 15 yrs but I know my credit score is 768 so it couldnt hurt that much.
