Incase anyone doesn't know, my name is Cody. And I decided to post a topic to telle everyone about the job I'm about to get so I don't combine it with Megan's thread.

So I decided to work at my local, and only one around me, gymnastics center. And I had my interview today and it went quite well because one of the students really said the guy really liked me. So I have to go in on Thursday to take some notes the I'm pretty much hired as an Assistant Boys Gymnastics Coach. :) Go me! ^_^ I don't know what my pay's going to be but he said at b-day parties he pays $13.00/hour. That's more than my parents make; that's insane! :o Anywho, I just decided to tell everyone that. ^_^

Aww heck no. I don't know anything about men's gymnastics except for the events, some coach I'll be. ^_^ I think the only reason I'm doing it is because I'm a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I used to coach little kids the sport. I think they train though, which is definitely a good thing in my shoes. :)

:o You're a black belt? I'm a brown belt with two stripes! I did it when I was little too, like maybe 7 is when I quit. I only did it for about 2 years so tested for a new belt about every two months. I won a gold at Sooner State Games too (sort of a qualification for J.O.'s) and I was the youngest gold medaler at... 6 1/2 I think lol, but I was too young to actually go to J.O.s in the blue belt division. Oh well. I was good at sparring but my forms were never great. I usually just got through them. And I had such a hard time memorizing the meanings of each form. But I loved Tae Kwan Do!

Yep. I'm a black belt, I'm proud to say that. And trhat's probably one of the reason's I never got picked on at school. ^_^ But wow, you were in it also? That's pretty cool. You must have been pretty good there for getting all those medals at such a young age. I never really did tournaments, I think I did two children's but nothing else, I wish I did though. I have a few throphies from them. :)

I was awesome at breaking boards and falling/throwing on mats. I was decent at sparring, very quick on my feet so I rarely got hit. Forms I didn't care for, I had the power and such, I just didn't like them but I did memorize all of the meanings; the black belt form is as hard as heck. I want to go back, but I really don't have the time for it sadly. :(

But yeah, that's one of the reasons why I got the coaching job. :D

If I got a job, I would KILL for it to be at a gym, even cleaning it. It would mean I would get to spend more time there, I really love gyms, just like the atmosphere, especially at my old gym.

Lol, I should go find my old book with all the forms and stuff. I was okay, I was just super energetic when I was little, not necessarily very technically good, I had a great coach. It was funny too because at SSG I was up against a girl who was 4 years older than me and probably about 10 inches taller! But she couldn't stop the spinning hook and wasn't fast enough to move out of the way of it. I was always okay at board breaking, the more technical spinning kicks I had trouble breaking the boards but my axe and roundhouse kicks were deadly, I could break up to two boards there. My trainer was like a 9th degree black belt or something like that... he was the highest you could be for his age. He was amazing, one time we watched him slice a piece of paper in half with a dagger-fist that was between two swords. It was amazing!

Yeah. The gym I applied for is pretty cool. I really don't have a choice of coolness since this is the only one in 50 miles form Green Bay, but it's good enough for me. ^_^ The only bad thing about it is that it smells like my freshman football locker room. Acually, not as bad; my freshman locker room was pretty much heck.

Ouchies. That spinning hook situation didn't sound good, that must have not been fun. I was the only one to break all of my boards, except for 1 I did twice, at my black belt test and they were all double boards. But I don't remember my routine. I should get my book out to find it and also just to reminisce just because I'm thinking of TKD now. :) And your instructor was a 9th degree? :o Our highest ranked in our district was only 8 degrees. He must have been extremely good.

I love gymnastic centers, especially when they're having the little kid classes and they're all running around and then there's two or three here and there who are working their little butts off and your just like, "Whoa, they're totally the next Blaine or Courtney or Carly or something." They're so cute too, the little ones that is!

Well... I guess it was painful for her... I made her nose bleed and I didn't hit her in the face so I'm confused how that happened.

Yeah, he was very good, he learned his art in South Korea too, he moved here when he got older. He'd been in Tae Kwan Do since he was 7 and he was like 40 something. He was awesome!

Heh. Yeah, little kid classes are so cute to watch. There was one going on when I was filling out my application and I almost died at how cute they all were. ^_^ I can't wait to start, if I like this, I'm almost definitely going to minor in Coaching in college.

Wow. That's 33 of Tae Kwon Do, he must be pretty dang awesome for even doing it that long. Starting in Korea must've really boosted him well because that's where it originated I do believe. I think I stated when I was 4, if I was still in it I'd probably be a 2nd or maybe 3rd degree right now. Oh well, I'll survive with just a first degree. :)

I KNOW!!! I LOVE THEM!!! There was ALWAYS one going on at my old gym since it was a new gym and didn't really have enough status to bring in older girls and boys. They were so adorable!!!

Yep!! He was awesome!! I'm sure you would have been high up there too! Yeah, it started in Korea, that's why I'm in it, other Jaime is from there and she brought me along with her when she started, it was a blast, she's a black belt but she quit to in wake of basketball.

HAHA, how many times did she kick your ass Jason?

*Fairly Long Post Warning*

Wee! I got back from my voulenteering at my gym to see if I want the job. I absolutely love it there! Everyone is so nice there; I made pretty good friends with all of the guy teachers there. So that's cool. :)

There is actually time when the teachers just get to do whatever so they dared me to do some stuff because they knew I couldn't do anything. :D So I have this slight fear of being upside down for some odd reason, so I was kind of hesitant to do it. I tried a kip (hope that's the right term) on UB, I didn't hit that. I keep bending my elbows, which I'm not supposed to. Then I did this kick up thing on PB, didn't hit that either. Then I tried rings. I love the rings; I can do all of the major positions alright except I have to get my butt down on the pike pos. So I was happy about that. But I was learning faster than some of the other beginners ther, so that makes me feel a bit better. ^_^ I then realized how strong gymnasts are and how much I really have to start working out. So the head instructor was wondering if I was strong, so he challenged me to a basic-L pos. on PB. Yeah. Let's just say he owninated me in that; gotta do my abs and hamstrings more. ^_^

So then I watched an instructor teach a class and I did conditioning with them. Quite easy except for clap behind back pushups, leg lifts with hands on ground, v-ups (I can't stand v-ups), and dips (Arrg! My triceps are a lot weaker than I thought). But the rest of the time was pretty much observing and stuff.

But there was like a 15:1 girl to boy ratio. So I guess my class will be pretty small. but there are a lot of talented girls there. One I saw looked exactly like Nastia, I actually had to do a double take on that one. And there's another one that looked like a little Sacramone. but there was a ton of talent.

Well hopefully the guy I worked with puts in good words with the head instructor. I go back tomorrow to work out the fine details then I finally get the job. If I got that, I'd be so psyched it wouldn't even be funny. :)

Yeah, so that was my day at the gym. Just thought I'd share that.

Just decided to update the world on my coaching job:

First, sorry I haven't been on much. Working kills a lot of free time I used to have. I'll try to come on a tad bit more. Just wanted to let everyone know.

But the job's going well. I'm beginning to start coaching part of classes to get me used to it. The kids seems to like me so far, so that's a good thing. So hopefully in a few months I an have my own class.

I worked open gym yesterday and I got to say that has to be the easiest job even. All you have to do is walk around and make sure nobody is getting killed.

I tried spotting a girl doing a BHS, but I've never spotted before. So she kind of landed awkward, but luckily she was older. Then I spotted another girl doing same thing and landed on her feet, so I guess I got a bit better. And I got to do a flip around on the tramp. So at least I got to do something on the job.

Then I worked a b-day party with 16 five year-olds. Not fun...

And I got paid too for my first week there. $19.64. But that's a heck of a lot of money to me.

Yep. Gotta love little kids. That's an aweosme paret of my job working with them. :)

Since I feel like I'm not coming on here much because of my job, I decided that I'll keep everyone updated:

Job is going awesome so far; I love it! The staff is great, the environment is great, and what other job do I get to play to get paid?! I'm actually not being my quiet self and just started to have a bunch of fun. I noticed the kids I work classes with are starting to listen to me and have more fun. :) I started to take over parts of classes and so far so good. I'm now working with intermediate girls as well as most boys classes.

The boss says I almost am able to have my own class, which I'm pretty psyched about. Hopefully sometime soon. And so far I've been getting good pay for just training: $180 in 1 month! That probably the most money I've ever had in my life. I'm going shopping!!!

$180? Buy me something Cody! Lol, I was just wondering what you're allowed to teach them, or do you just kinda watch and spot. If you become the next Bela Karolyi, you're my best friend lol.

Heh. I would buy something for you and anyone who wanted it but I barely have any to spend myself. Most of my money is in the bank and can't take out (parent's rule, not mine) and I have to get a few necessities that I need to buy before I do anything else with it.

Actually we have skills that we're supposed to teach each level. We don't make them up; it's USAG standards so we really can't go above and beyond. Oh well. But it makes sense because you wouldn't want someone doing a BHS without being able to do a forward roll or something like that.

lol And I so wish I could become the next Karoyli, that'd be such an honor. But nobody could replace a guy like him. :) But if I ever do you could be my best friend lol.

But anywho, the job is going awesome so far. I'm so close to being done with training I can smell it. Actually teaching most of the class of my two classes I'm training. Kids seem to like me more and more each time, so that's encouraging. And after my training I'll be getting a key to the place and a raise in salary! Yay for me. But I'm not able to work Mondays because of Jazz Band so I won't be getting paid as much. Oh well, I still love the job. :)

No, I just meant that even though you don't really have any personal gym experience if you yourself was allowed to teach skills or if you were only allowed to spot, etc.

And I'm sure you're a great coach already! And it sounds like the kids like you a lot Cody!
