Posted January 21, 200818 yr comment_9121 The University Of Memphis is officially #1 in the Coaches Poll just released. We were further ahead of Kansas on the AP Poll so we should be #1 on both. Interesting it happens on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which obviously is Memphis-related.
January 21, 200818 yr Author comment_9122 Also #1 on AP. Tennessee is actually ahead of Duke on that one which surprises me. Deserved though.
January 23, 200818 yr Author comment_9128 We better win tonight now that I am bragging about them. The game is on CSTV and then the game I am going to Saturday morning is on ESPN. Another note: In the AP poll Memphis has the most points and most #1 votes anyone has had this year. UNC was never as high. Mainly becuase it was a 3 team race and now it's a 2 team race so it is closer to unanimous.
January 30, 200818 yr Author comment_9152 Memphis and Kansas both have tough games later tonight. Memphis at Houston and Kansas at Kansas State. So if they are both undefeated after today still, they have accomplished a lot more. Memphis is still ranked #1. So for the first time ever they retained it for a second week. Also the game I went to on Saturday was the first home game ever played as #1. In 1983, we played 2 road games then lost the ranking.
February 2, 200818 yr Author comment_9160 Tough game today, but Memphis pulled it out with a jumper by Rose with 50 seconds left keeping us ahead for good. UTEP looked very nervous at the end and I think they kind of choked at the end. It was a great game though. The players said they think this was just one of the 3 or so games per year where everything just goes wrong. But they found a way to get the victory and are 21-0 for the first time in team history. I thought about going to this game and now I wish I had gone! The voters look for any way to move Memphis down so I predict we will NOT have every first place vote. They will try to give some to Duke or North Carolina as usual. And I wouldn't be shocked if they move the winner of Duke and North Carolina (Wednesday) ahead of us on the polls even if we stay undefeated. That would be ridiculous. Always good to win a game this close. The UTEP coach was Calipari's assistant and knows our program in and out, thus why they managed to keep it close.
February 4, 200818 yr Author comment_9169 Memphis becomes the first team to be unanimous #1 this season and they are unanimous on both polls.
February 17, 200818 yr Author comment_9200 What a game tonight. I truly thought we finally were losing. We were down by 7 with 1:23 left and STILL found a way to win. The classy UAB fans spit on us and threw a bottle and may have broken Taggart's nose.
February 17, 200818 yr Author comment_9209 lol nice image. Man I am recording the replay of that game today, but I can't figure out the excact time it ended so I am unsuire if it will go over the 2 hours. Ahhhhh.
