Now that we have a kick ass betting feature I thought a bet suggestion thread would be good. I'm sure we will have plenty of options to choose from but incase you feel something got lost in the shuffle, post it here. Please give atleast 3 days notice so admin has time to consider it.

This thread is for serious betting ideas only. Its not meant to waste admin's precious time. You can check the site news to see all the hours he puts into making features like this.

Now that I wrote this out, I forgot what my idea was going to be.

Why did you put it in the news area? lol Really suggestions could be made in the other topic also and I asked for feedback in a couple specific areas, but nobody answered.

I was thinking about making a section all for talking about sports betting, but that would be overkill and the reviews section is probably overkill also. Thus I may make a section for discussing any feature again.

Anyway I am open to some ideas. Personally the main thing I want to do at this point is get things looking better on the matchup pages where the tables have so much information that it is kind of cluttered and really needs some graphics probably.

Personally I would love to get the reviews system active also and it is so feature-pacjed that it looks bloated. It's hard to get things looking nice and neat.

I was thinking the other thread was more for your updates and stuff so I made this 1 strictly for betting ideas. I dont have any other feedback for the beting system. Seems to look and work great so I'm happy. Its easier for me to give feedback after I see ideas in action. Do what you think needs to be done and I'll post after that.

fyi, I put teams as favorites just to help the betters. Odds actually count towards who wins the bet, so I left those at 0. Just reiterating people can bet 0 on those games if they wish, just for fun, and not have to use their free bets.

edit: I just bet out 1,350 and used a couple free bets. I think it's smartest to wait on some of the bowl games, but it then runs the risk of forgetting about them. Remember the winner gets 5,000 bonus, so don't let the admin keep winning everything.

I'm not sure if I understand. The teams are not listed as Away vs Home?

Yes they are away vs. home. Home is on the right. That is why I am going to change the heading above it from "Matchup" to "Away vs. Home" probably. Although for bowl games, obviously none of them are technically a true home team. The favorite is just who is supposed to win.

By the way here is where I need feedback again. For the page that lists matchups in a category (once you click the NFL link, NBA link, etc... shouldn't I kick out all closed matchups from that? Otherwise it's going to get huge with tons and tons of matchups. I don't really think I need the links to stay there after the bets are closed anyway becuase anyone who cares about seeing them again probably already bet on them or wouldn't care. And if they already bet on them then they can simply go to the My Bets page and click the link there to go back and see the results and what the odds were blah blah blah. That way it wouldn't be so cluttered on category pages.

Also I can change number of rows per page. I have the My Bets page set at 50 per page, but honestly that looks all cluttered too, so it's difficult deciding on balances between having all the info right there and having it look less cluttered. I need to somehow fancy some things up.

Edit: Actually or I could make it where if it has a true home team it says "at" instead of "vs.". I would have to add a few lines of coding to do it that way. It would be more realistic though to show which ones are neutral homes. Although I sure don't like how "at" would look and I don't like the "@" symbol either really. ahhhhhh.

Also the My Bets page is sorted by the order you picked them in. I "can" make it sort by game time, although it would mean adding a query which could barely slow it a fraction of a second. Or I could make it not load this other query and then replace it with this new one. Probably would be better to sort it by game time than how it is now I suppose.

And as an fyi I just noticed on the bowl ghame today I bet 0, but bowl games have auto payouts of 200 even if you don't bet and also I used a free bet on the Duke game. So what's cool is even if I am wrong in both cases today, nothing changes in my bet winnings/losses. So all I can do today is either stay the same or finally go into the positive.

Come on people, you letting the admin win all the points. Ha. I won 600 today. Maybe I should be a professional better. :yikes:

This is weird, It doesnt list pip in the people who viewed this topic today list. I bet it's a bug in his system where sicne I have ehr group set to not see that list, maybe people in her group dont show IN the list either.

Anyway I am doing awesome becuase I didnt bet much in the first few games and some games I bet 0. I am being conservative in my decisions on what to bet high on.

Plus I just got lucky. lol The memphis game also.... that agve me a ton.

Since you can list for the future, how about listing all of Memphis's potential big games up until the tourney?

Well I could. I just figured since things change it would affect such things as odds and also it would get people spending their points way ahead. I guess as far as ones I am confident will be close matchups I could do and not put odds.

By the way I am also going to make a page telling "today's games" or "games in the next 24 hours"/ Something like that. Then people can quickly be sure there aren't any games about to close for betting and they overlooked them.

Also honestly there is no reason to have a search feature, but I do like how the search bar looks. Ahhhhh.

Man I really want to make something that will get the site active and fun, but I don't know what. I have a few ideas for this system still, but not much else I can think of adding to the site. And too many features just make it more confusing. I always wanted the site to get active with a lot of posts, so even adding features to the site idsn't so great when nobody posts still. I honestly am getting baffled on how to get the site active and honestly I have seen some general discussion sites do fine. It's just hard to get anyone active enough here to draw others in. Ahhhh.

I really love this sports system though. lol It keeps seeming to pay properly and I am just surprised I didn't mess up somewhere. I am sure we will find a bug at some point.

I am hoping to soon add a page for each member where it will tell all of their bowl picks, BUT BUT BUT it won;t show them until betting on that game ends. That way someone who is ahead can't keep spying on others' picks and purposely picking the same ones to stay ahead of them automatically.

I think this will be quite a good feature for bowl picking. I also think it's pretty cool that I allow each game to be picked separately. Also I am not aware of betting systems where you can select all the way up until game time either. So those are some of the unique features of this.

I will also make clicking on usernames on the picks stats page go to that person's picks sheet, not their profile as it currently does.

Other than this, I also want to put more stats on the My Bets page. And not much else to do right now.

In the future I want to change up the bowl picks area totally, but I have a year to do that.

I also want to make this more that betting by adding more sports features.

They are up. First 10 games will have 1,000 maxes then the SB will have higher, but may have to have odds if it is a lopsided matchup.

Big Bets are increased to triple instead of double for the next day or two for a New Year's Special. But use them wisely.

The 1 game is featured because it has the lowest odds in real life.

Note to myself: show big bet multiplier at TIME of bet on my bets page.

Eh, I don't know how much more effort I am going to put into this. There's starting to just be too many games where nobody bets, just as with the last sports betting system here. It was only me and Pip doing the bowl contest and then most of the NFL games are untouched still. I will probably just work on it in ways that make me feel like I did a good job just for my own satisfaction and then when I get to that point I will not keep putting in the amount of time I have been since it is not being used. If I could get more activity here it would definitely be more worth the time.

I may still work on it as much and then sell it though. I try to have unique programs on my site for the members here, in an attempt to get some more interaction occurring. But if that keeps not happening, at some point I should just sell what I make.

Edit: Oops I accidentally had it turned off all day today also. That would definitely make it even less likely to get used if people can't access it of course. lol

Anyway everyone is apparently being smart on their bets becuase even though we all are successful on low percentages, we are still winning instead of losing, point-wise.

I think by next month I am going to make free bets automatically be for half the max because there needs to be some risk to things or what is the point of even betting? If you can get the max without risking, it is not even close to real life.

Like I said, I don't feel like adding much right now due to the lack of activity. I may add a couple more games and then if people don't use it, I just don't see a point.

Anyway I am considering some other things. I was thinking of having final scores shown instead of just the margin, but honestly I am not so sure that is a big deal anyway. Only reason I even have margins is where people can double check to be sure I dont accidentally mark a team as winning when they don't cover their spread.

I think the most important thing for me to add is member submitting matchups where I don't have to add things people won't bet on. They would enter the team names and date I guess and then I would add the rest such as odds if I approve it. But really the site needs more activity for it to be worth doing much on this. I think a lot of features here are fun so I use them, but it's not that fun when it's only me on most of them. I have no clue how to get it used more honestly.

I need feedback on whether to keep big bets as they are now or make it where you use x number of big bet "tickets" on a bet. In other words if you have 5 left you could choose to use all 5 on a bet and it would make it 10 times winning rather than doing 5 2 times bets. It may be better to keep it the way it is though where it is what I set it at and it can change on special days like when I had it triple last week.

Man it is really tricky trying to get it to store this bowl contest somewhere and then have a clean slate for the next contest. I may make it where it keeps the contest winners' stats for each bowl contest, but drops everything else other than the current contest and the previous year's.

Just really tough deciding how to handle that. I hate to lose the stats for it, but for each contest it is going to have to ditch these where it doesn't count them obviously. Hmm. There are several possibilities.

Is there a bigger penalty for making a big bet and losing?

No. I thought about doing that, but then I thought all that would really be would be like upping the max bet. Basically whatever you bet is all you are risking, but you can win double the amount. Also it doubles all winnings. So if the matchup is a special one with a bonus of 200 and you bet 500, it gives you 500+200 then doubles that so it would be 1,400. That's why I have won so much, I won huge big bets on a memphis game and the lsu game.

I say double, but it changes if I want to change it. On your nfl bets if you used them you got triple. I am not sure if you used it then or not.

I just enjoy making the bets. I havent concentrated on the points to much. Every bet I have made has been max.
