I think Torre's time had come with the yankees. He got his team to 6 WS in 6 years winning 4 of them. Did a phenomenal job managing all the high priced personalities on this team and always carried himself with class and dignity.

After the way Steinbrenner treated him this year, I'm glad Joe got to throw it back in his face. I wish he would have done it before the offer but still good enough. George handled this horribly and deserves to be embarrassed.

The good news is we will hopefully be smart enough to snap up Girardi and give him a shot to bring some fire back to this team. My only concern with him is how would he manage all the money players. Will they respect him enough to listen?

The bad news is Mariano and Posada might leave because of this. Jorge had a great seasoned and did some great off season training.

Mariano 2 yrs - 32 million.

Posada - 3yrs 35-40 million

Joe didn't so much throw it back in his face the way people are saying. In a way he did, but it's also being said that the Yankees purposely offered him only a 1 year deal to show they didn't really want him and they were putting on an act for the players and fans where there would not be uproar.

Either way you look at it although Torre is a better than average manager, he was not nearly as good as he is made out to be. He made some horrible decisions while being the manager, such as barely using Jose Canseco when Jose was hitting well. One day he hit a homerun into the upper deck then Torre doesn't use him again for half a week. This year when Giambi was hot Torre ruined it by not using him every day so he got cold again. He is also very stubborn about his decisions.

Long story short... with the talent the Yankees had several other managers could have won them more world series. I also don't think the Yankees will make the playoffs again for a few years and girardi will only have them win about 80 games if he becomes manager.

It doesn't matter what they did as a result. They won by less than they would have, thus my point that they won on talent and luck, not Torre.

Now i actually am going to root for the Yankees net year just to back me up that Torre made horrible decisions. Then we will hear your excuses of why they go futrhter. I am torn between wanting them to be horrible and wanting them to be great. If they DO become horrible it will be becuase of players leaving, NOT becuase of Torre.

Basically his luck ran out. His move with Canseco turned out fine due to luck. His bad moves finally caught up to him this year as the placers aged and didn't give him the same quality talent as the past. Especially guys like Mussina and Clemens and Rivera.

I read yet another article today about Torre's press confernce where even Torre himself said he was pretty much fired becuase the team made an insult offer then would not even negotiate on it. They wanted hikm to turn it down, just as I said. I think Steinbrenner knows usttttt alittle more than Torre about business decisions.

As I figured it looks more like Mattingly will be manager than Girardi. I liked Mattingly, but I feel like he won't be a good manager. So i guess I will root for them to hire him where the Yankees do bad. I know myself that it won't be from Torre being gone, so I don't care what anyone else thinks anywya. I just want them to do terrible, as I want the red sox to do terrible.

Girardi is obviously the new manager. Smart move compared to Mattingly I believe.

But people are writing columns saying how stupid they are to have ruined their chances of keeping arod.

One interesting tidbit on arod is some think he will go to the Cube and go back to shortstop which would probably increase his fantasy value. Although not I would actually say there are more good shortstops than thirdbasemen already.
