2006 MLB Trading Deadline Rumors and Deals
White Sox GM Ken Williams said Monday that Brandon McCarthy, who is rumored to be going to the Nationals in an Alfonso Soriano deal, won't be traded. "I have no intention whatsoever of trading him in any sort of deal," Williams said. "He's very much a part of our future. To answer your question, Brandon is not going anywhere." Commenting on Tim Kurkjian's original report, ESPN's Keith Law said McCarthy would be a part of the deal. That no additional details have come out since the afternoon has us wondering just how "extremely close" this really is.

Closers
ESPN is reporting that the White Sox are close to getting Mike MacDougal from the Royals for pitching prospect Tyler Lumsden. Lumsden has a fair amount of potential, but the Royals should be able to do a little better if he's the only return. The White Sox would use MacDougal as a setup man. The Royals will likely put Ambiorix Burgos back into the closer's role.

2006 MLB Trading Deadline Rumors and Deals
Braves acquired RHP Bob Wickman from the Indians for catcher Max Ramirez. Coming off a brutal June, Wickman has pitched scoreless innings for saves in each of his four appearances this month. He's not a very good pitcher these days, but a switch to the NL should help quite a bit. The Braves will make him their closer and put Kenny Ray in a setup role. The Indians are likely to replace Wickman with Fausto Carmona.

Sunday's Injuries
John Patterson will undergo exploratory surgery on Thursday to examine the median nerve and lacertus fibrosis in his right forearm. The Nationals haven't declared him out for the year, but a return in 2006 is quite a long shot. The club should just be hoping that he'll be 100 percent at the start of next year.

Reds - Nationals Make Deal
Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner have been traded from the Reds to the Nationals for the Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, Royce Clayton, Brendan Harris and Daryl Thompson. How the hell do the reds make this deal? These better be some great prospects for what they gave up.
