Reds signed RHP Francisco Cordero, who had been with the Brewers, to a four-year, $46 million contract with a club option for 2012. The Brewers will get supplemental first-round picks for losing Cordero and Scott Linebrink. They're also currently in line to receive second-rounders from the Reds and White Sox, though that could change if either team signs a guy with a higher Elias ranking. Cordero's arrival in Cincinnati pushes David Weathers into a setup role alongside Jared Burton. He'll likely be a fine closer initially, though it's anyone's guess whether he'll be nearly as good in his age 35 and 36 seasons.

The Dodgers reached a tentative agreement late Wednesday night with free-agent center fielder Andruw Jones, a source with knowledge of the situation said on the condition of anonymity. Jones, a 10-time Gold Glove winner who was once one of the game's most feared hitters, will receive a two-year, $36 million contract if he passes a physical. http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_7646252

This was interesting.. According to Sweeney Murti on WFAN, the Tigers have approached the Mets about Dontrelle Willis, with Ivan Rodriguez also perhaps being involved. It appears that the Tigers would like to shed some salary after picking up Miguel Cabrera, and this would be a creative way of doing it. The Mets have long been interested in Willis, but the Marlins didn't want to trade him in the division. If they took on both Willis and Pudge, they'd be adding $20 million to the payroll -- or maybe $15 million if they threw back Brian Schneider -- and they might have to extend Rodriguez in order to get him to waive his no-trade protection.

Why not? The marlins did it in 03. What I want to see is a team full of blue collar guys. The guys who play hard 162+ games. I would love to see Aaron Rowand be signed. I also would have liked to see them sign Mike Lowell. These are hard nose guys that arent perfect but are always working and hustling.

Even though I would have dealt Hughes and Melky for Santana I have to love that they are really trying to rebuild from within. By next yr this team should be more like the championship teams of the late 90's.

Mets acquire catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan Church from the Nationals for outfielder Lastings Milledge. IMO this is a retarded deal. I am in no way a big fan of milledge but he coulda been packaged for something better then this. A bad catcher and a utility OF with speed. Mets already have Endy Chavez to fill that role so church has no value. I would have rather opened the season with Estrada than Schnieder.

The best part of Santana is that he hasnt been overworked. He has only pitched over 230 innings twice in his career and the twins were always very careful with him. He's only been a starter for 4 1/2 yrs and already has 2 cy youngs. Probobly would be better fir for the yankees because of him being a lefty and what I heard was that the new ballpark will have basically the same dimensions as the old 1. Yanks would still need a #2 starter if they get Santana. Santana ? Wang Pettite Kennedy

The Twins are close to landing Delmon Young from the Devil Rays in a six-player deal that would send Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett and Juan Rincon to Tampa Bay. The six-player Delmon Young trade has yet to go through because of concerns regarding medical reports on Juan Rincon's elbow, according to CBS Sportsline. The Rays are supposed to receive Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett and Rincon from Minnesota for Young, Brendan Harris and Jason Pridie. Neither team should be willing to let this fall apart because of Rincon. His WHIP has gone from 1.02 to 1.21 to 1.35 to 1.56 the last four years, while his strikeout rate has plummeted in the other direction. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10500884/rss

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that neither Mariano Rivera nor Jorge Posada would be agreeing to deals before the midnight deadline. Rivera is quoted as telling an AP reporter in the Dominican Republic that he'll consider Los Angeles once he can talk money with other teams. "The Yankees are my first option," he said in Santo Domingo. "But if that is not possible, there is Joe with the Dodgers."
